The Atkins Diet
This diet certainly needs no introduction. Launched in 1972 by Dr Atkins, this diet has taken the World by storm and has been tried by Millions of people.
The idea of the diet is to completely cut down on Carbs and allow your body to burn your fat reserves. You are guaranteed to lose weight if you stick to the plan, although it has been critised for being unhealthy.
The diet is a meat eaters dream. It encourages you to eat plenty of meat and sausage and eggs are a recommended breakfast, which doesnt seem so bad
The list of foods are forbidden and must not be touched:
Bread, Rice, Potatoes, Pasta, Breakfast Cereals, Milk, Sugar, Caffeine, Pastry, Alcohol, Pizza, Fruits, Curries, Biscuits, Yoghurts
Avoiding these foods can make choosing a meal pretty hard and changes to your shopping and cooking habits will need to be changed (as with all diets).
This is not a recommended long term diet plan and is often used as a quick weight loss scheme. After a while your body will lack energy and you will begin to feel tired. Vigorous workouts may also be hard to do due to the lack of Energy your body has.
Atkins can also become pretty pricey. All the steak, cheeses and cream will soon add up and a raise in your shopping bill can be expected. On top of this, there are special Atkins products that are available from more or less anywhere.
